Useful Website Links & Local Information
Provided below are details for some of the local websites concerned with animal welfare:
Conwy County Borough Council - Stray/Lost Dogs
From 6 April 2008, local councils have become solely responsible in relation to stray dogs, the police no
longer have any legal duties. Outside office hours local authorities will be expected, where practicable, to
provide a place to which a stray dog can be taken and accepted into local authority care. In association with the
existing kennel providers, Nant y Corn Kennels in St George, Conwy Council has introduced a protocol for dealing with reports of strays.
During office hours anyone finding a stray dog should phone the Council's dog warden direct on (01492) 575279.
At any other time phone the Council's out of hours service on (01492) 515777, where callers will be offered advice of the options available.
During certain times by prior arrangement through the out of hours service (after office hours and before 10pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 10pm
on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays) the kennels may be able to accept strays if there's space and the caller is able to take the dog to them.
Or the caller may wish to hold onto the stray until the next working day for collection by the dog warden. Please DO NOT contact the kennels direct
or take a stray dog to the kennels without first contacting the out of hours service as you may be turned away.
The kennels will keep a record of the stray dogs.
Visit the Nant y Corn website where there are photographs of dogs currently held at the kennels:
